How a “Doctor” Suspended in South Africa Allegedly for Fraud Was Able to Obtain a Licence in Alberta
Latest: Part 8, Aug 18, 2026

How do doctors with disciplinary histories elsewhere come to practise in Canada? This series looks at decisions by Alberta's College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSA) and its Saskatchewan counterpart. In Alberta, the CPSA continues to allow Imafidon Thomas Izekor to practise. He was suspended in Saskatchewan in 2025 for sexual misconduct toward women, including a minor, and has faced billing findings. The series also follows the death of Baby Alita, who died hours after a visit to a doctor in Beaverlodge. That doctor was reportedly suspended in South Africa, allegedly for fraud, and was later licensed in Alberta. Our reporting on the case led Alberta Health Services to issue us a year-long ban from its hospitals. In Saskatchewan, the series covers a Yorkton doctor kept in practice after a child-assault finding and Moose Jaw pediatrician Adegbenga Rabiu, who faces dishonest-conduct charges he has not yet answered.
