Accused Child Trafficker Skye Atoa Gets Fresh Bail Shot After Breach Charge Withdrawn
Latest: Part 7, Jul 1, 2026

Who gets released, and on what terms? This series examines bail and sentencing decisions in serious cases across Alberta and Saskatchewan, using court records we obtained. It follows Skye Atoa of Lethbridge, who is charged with offences involving girls aged 14 to 16. Justice Frederick Charles Fisher granted him $0 bail, and he was re-arrested about half an hour later for an alleged breach, a charge that was later withdrawn. It covers two Calgarians charged after an 18 lb fentanyl seizure near Swift Current, one of whom was released on $25,000 bail, and a Calgary man freed on $0 bail the day after a 170 lb cocaine seizure at the border. It also covers an international student out on bail in a Regina fentanyl case, a sentencing judge's handling of a convicted trafficker's final request, and a Medicine Hat ride-share driver charged with sexual assault and released on a $1,000 promise to pay. All accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
