Canadian Political Scientist Criticizes MMIWG2S+ Narrative on Violence Against Aboriginal Women
Latest: Part 4, May 5, 2026

Dr. Frances Widdowson is a Canadian political scientist and a long-time critic of what she calls the "Aboriginal industry." She questions the claim that 215 unmarked graves of children were found in Kamloops, B.C., arguing that it lacks evidence. This series follows her activism in southern Alberta in 2026. In Calgary, an Indigenous crowd surrounded her at an event about relocating a memorial that the City is funding with $7.5 million. She was carrying a sign that read "Denial or truth? Zero bodies." In April, she returned to the University of Lethbridge, which had trespassed her, to speak with a student and was arrested by Lethbridge police. She was released with a trespass ticket and called on Premier Danielle Smith to protect free expression on campuses. At a Red Dress event in Calgary, she argued that the MMIWG2S+ framing misdiagnoses violence against Aboriginal women, citing Statistics Canada data on accused persons. Her views are contested. This series documents the events and her own words.
