I woke up to a demand letter in my inbox from a lawyer representing Dr. Adegbenga Rabiu, threatening to sue me unless I delete my public interest journalism.
Dr. Rabiu is currently practicing in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan as a pediatrician. He was the subject of two sexual misconduct investigations in Ontario that led to him being essentially banned from practicing medicine in that province.
He then quietly relocated to Saskatchewan to continue his practice, and is now facing two charges of dishonest conduct for allegedly hiding those past sexual misconduct investigations from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS).
The video report he wants removed is the one in which I introduced exclusively obtained documents from the CPSS. In those documents, the Registrar demanded the revocation of his license, stating that they would not have given him a license had they known about his history in Ontario.
Now, Dr. Rabiu wants that video report gone and is threatening to sue me unless I delete my report. I am not going to delete the report. I stand firmly by my public interest journalism, and I will never waver from my commitment to the public good.
You cannot relocate from another province and try to bury your past while having access to the most vulnerable members of our society: children.
I was the only one to cover this story, and I did so without the intention of profit or clicks. But now I need your help to forcefully defend my journalism against this threat, so that the report can stay up and the families in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan can make an informed decision about who they are trusting.
Help keep independent journalism strong. Donate today to help me fight against this threat and keep the report up:
