Four Canadian Armed Forces members lost their lives and 39 were injured in a fire at CFB Wainwright on Saturday, Oct. 17.

National Defence says the fire started around 4 p.m. MT during training. High winds spread it quickly, and it overtook the unit's administrative area.

The four who died are Sgt. Morgan Wong, 26, of Edmonton; Pte. Shaun Farrell of Prince Albert, Sask.; Pte. Aidan Goulding, 23, of North Vancouver, B.C.; and Pte. Hayden Lykkemark of Langley, B.C. Wong's age is from The Canadian Press. Goulding's mother told CBC News he was 23.

Of the 39 injured, 19 were in critical condition, eight were stable and 12 were ambulatory, Acute Care Alberta CEO Sayeh Zielke said, according to The Associated Press.

Officials have not said what caused the fire. Maj.-Gen. Wade Rutland said the fire moved so fast that within 30 seconds to a minute, those on the ground went from seeing no fire to having it "right on top of them," the Edmonton Journal reported.

We extend our condolences to the families of the four soldiers.
