Seth Hatfield was identified by police this morning as the man behind the shooting that resulted in the death of a Montreal police officer and a civilian.
The revelation that he was from Lethbridge, Alberta, home to the iconic High Level Bridge, the world's longest and highest steel railway trestle bridge, brought the small city onto the world stage, shocking residents who lived near him.
"I know we are at the top of the crime index right now, but I would not expect a shooter coming from Lethbridge to Montreal," one neighbor reacted.
"I just hope that the officer that had died gets a hero's funeral and gets the honours he deserves for losing his life for his country," he added.
Another Lethbridge resident described the shock he felt seeing SWAT vehicles surround the home of the Montreal Shooter, about 3,000 km away from the crime scene, evacuating surrounding residents to conduct a search. "A bunch of tactical teams, the police, and peace officers came and they blocked-off the area. It's usually a really quite neighborhood," he said.
