"We Need to Stop Being a Colony of Quebec": Alberta Separatists Pack Town Hall in Airdrie

"We started off as a colony to serve the interests of the East in September of 1905, and here we are 120 darn years later, still being pillaged and plundered — this is why we need to get out," said one of the speakers to a packed town hall on a Thursday evening in Airdrie.

"I'm here for my grandchildren," said one of the attendees. "They need to be free to prosper," he added when asked why the issue matters to him.

"We will no longer be governed by Liberal idiotic policies that are damaging Alberta's prosperity," one attendee said, slamming Premier Danielle Smith's perceived lack of progress in fulfilling her campaign promises. "She could've easily introduced, in her first year, a tax agency, our own police force, and submitted the application for the Alberta Pension Plan. These are major items that don't need a referendum — [Quebec] got their own immigration system, pension plan, and tax agency," he added.

Jeffrey Rath, a constitutional lawyer and advocate for an independent Alberta, proclaimed that the U.S. administration “will support Alberta independence.”  Rath stated that the U.S. would back their movement for sovereignty from a national security standpoint — “and freeing Alberta’s oil reserves from the control of the Chinese communists that govern Ottawa.”
